The foundation

We continue Papa Elkanah Osibanjo's life's work: spreading the good news of Christ, relieving poverty, opening the way to education and a trade, and standing with people others have written off, in the conviction he lived by: that no one is beyond restoration.

In their own words

A letter from the family

Our father trained as a cabinet maker. We think about that more than you would expect. Before he was Reverend Osibanjo, before the thirty-three churches and the five zones and the name that people still lower their voices a little to say, he was a young man in a workshop learning how to take material that was rough and make something useful out of it.

He never really stopped doing that. He just changed what he was working on.

The phrase he used for it was restoring the marred pot. He meant it as a way of handling people. He would say that no one is completely useless without a trace of usefulness in one area or the other. And then, which is the part we want you to understand, he would act on it. He gave responsibility to people others had quietly written off. He found what someone was good at and built them somewhere to stand. A great many people are still standing there.

He went home to glory on 5 December 2018, at eighty-eight. For a while afterwards we did what families do: we told the stories, we kept the photographs, we let the grief find its shape. But the stories kept pointing at something we had not done anything about. He had spent forty years making room for people. He had retired in 1989, voluntarily, while he was still wanted, and lived nearly thirty years more as an ordinary member of churches he had planted. And the need he spent his life answering, in Mushin, in Shomolu, in the streets around the church, has not gone anywhere.

So we registered this foundation in Lagos, in his name.

What we have is his method, which we watched work for four decades, and the intention to apply it carefully and to account for it honestly.

If you knew him, you already know why this matters. If you did not, we hope the rest of this site introduces you to him properly, and that you will consider standing with us.

Chairman

Rev. Mike Osayiwu is the Shomolu District Overseer and Axis Coordinator of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria. A thoroughbred Foursquarian, he was dramatically healed early in life: a child who could not walk, and was carried everywhere, became an able-bodied adult in Christ. That healing gave him an unquenchable hunger for God and a dogged faith that has propelled him into exemplary kingdom service ever since, holding nothing back.

He holds a BSc and an MEd from the University of Lagos and an MBA from the University of Calabar, and is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management. A seasoned administrator, he rose to General Manager, Finance and Administration, at Natec Nigeria Limited and Philday Nigeria Limited, and as an educationist he was a Resource Fellow in School Administration to Tunkem International Schools, among others. He took his Bachelor of Theology at LIFE Theological Seminary, Ikorodu, and an Executive Diploma in Church Management from McPherson University, Ogun State.

He is a pastor, an evangelist, a Bible scholar, a teacher and a widely travelled conference speaker. He is married to Rev. Mrs Mosunmola Osayiwu, also a credentialed minister of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, and they are blessed with biological and spiritual children and grandchildren.
